Re: Cotters (nit picking)
I have a driver unrestored original AR phaeton, and am currently building a 29 roadster street rod.
I believe if it is no harder to make a new/repro part look as it came from the factory, I say. ask away and go for it. Even with my rod, I am trying to emulate a 29 fold down windscreen post as I think they would have been if made by ford. I am building a 29 body with 30 fenders because I think it may look not so antique, but still be all model A. If ford has of lined up all the slotted screws on the dash rail from the factory , I would too. So, try when you can to get as it was. |

Re: Cotters (nit picking)
Questions such as this about cotter pins show that somethings it is just as easy to do the "fine point" way as any other. Plating, painting, and other questions/answers show that since you are only going to do a thing once it you might as well be as close as Ford wanted it to be when it left the factory.
pooch was typing as I was so there are at least two of us that beleive "... if it is no harder to make a new/repro part look as it came from the factory, I say. ask away and go for it."

Re: Cotters (nit picking)
Wow. 46 replies and only 7 or 8 are actually about the original question. The rest are choosing up sides just like on a pre-school playground for a game of dodgeball. Remember when it used to be "restorers" VS "rodders". Now it seems that it is "restorers" VS "restorers" VS "rodders". This is great entertainment but not very helpful most of the time. I do like when pictures are included however.

Re: Cotters (nit picking)
I find this thread interesting, watched it from the beginning. I wish Joop would
have posted Doc's story LARGER, can't read the damn thing. I've know Bill about 40 years, a FINE mechanic, a sharp guy! He's even thinking about buying a JS book to understand more of the Fine Point guy's and the fine points of the cars.....and the weird questions. Some of you guy's know me personally, and when I say, he's just having some fun and stirring the pot. Think about this....I'm glad he wasn't around here when we talked about the color BLACK ! That would have driven him nuts! Come-on Bill, lighten up |

Re: Cotters (nit picking)
A local "Fine Point" winner once told me there could be as many as 25 current "Fine Point" restorations underway. That is wonderful news, I just wish there could be a way of know who they are so "Fine Point" only answers can be posted, and the lesser "Restorers" could just look in on the answers. This isn't a MARC or MAFCA website and I see no reason to make others feel like lesser people with an interest in Model A's.

Re: Cotters (nit picking)
Personally I prefer knowing the small details. I'm afraid that threads like these will only shy away those who may have similar interests from asking questions.
