Recent dip stick dimension post
Where the heck did it go ? It just read it and now it disappeared.
Anyway, it showed the dimensions as 6 5/8" from bottom of loop to its end. Then 1 1/8" up from bottom to full mark. That leaves 5 1/2" from bottom of loop to full mark. There has been a whole lot of discussion on this over the decades. And now I can't find any of it. I have I think 4 dipsticks which are all different lengths. So when I had the base off clean out all the crud [ technical term ] upon installation I dumped 4 qts of oil in and stuck in one of dipsticks and filed a mark. Then added a qt and filed a second mark. Been using it for I can't remember how long. Anyway, it measures 8" long. The full mark is 6 3/8" from bottom of loop and the low mark is about 1 1/8" below that. So I guess that leaves a question about fill tube length. |

It is still there.
I had trouble finding it though ... until I remembered that Bob Bidonde posted it. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showp...64&postcount=6 Last edited by Benson; 08-13-2021 at 10:53 AM. |

Re: Recent dip stick dimension post
The bayonet handle shown in post #2 is for a V8 and has different measurements than the Model A bayonet handle. I will post some pictures of the Model A bayonet handle with measurements.
According to the judging standards the bayonet style handle was changed to a round loop handle in January 1929. The bayonet style was therefore used in all of 1928. The bayonet handles are not that common. The bayonet handle is clearly shown in the attached picture. When I was restoring my 28 for fine point judging I found a very nice bayonet dip stick which I still have but no need for it. Also attached is an image of page 17 of an original Jan 1 1928 parts Ford parts book showing the dip stick part # A-6750, this dip stick was used from the beginning thru the end of 28. Additional images show the 28 bayonet dip stick and the later 29-31 dip stick with measurements. Last edited by frank55a; 09-06-2021 at 08:20 PM. Reason: add picture and info |
