Default Couple of 56 SD window questions, one dumb

First the dumb question. When I pulled the door windows to do the body work I did not label them, duh. Anyway I am now not sure which is which. So is this the passenger side of drivers side? Second question I pulled the window on the other side to replace it. On the channel that the window goes in it appears to be quite corroded. Should this be used or get a new one? Sorry the flash made that hard to see.

Looking at a diagram of a Tbird window, it looks like the window shown is the left (drivers) side. And if I remember correctly, the slot the the rollers go into point inward. Also, the short slot goes to the front.

A way to check this is to look at the roller ends of the mechanism and see which was has the most travel. That will tell you where the longer slot goes.

As far as the corroded channel, if it is stiff enough so it wont bend, I would reuse it. It may be hard to find

On the channel, I agree with Paul. But when I redid my bird windows I used modern urethane in the channel to mount the window. I did not hammer the glass into the original style welting. I clamped it up to keep everything straight while it set. That would put less stress on the channel during assembly and probably during operation.

Corroded window channels can be cleaned up using a wire wheel mounted to a bench grinder motor. If wire wheel becomes dull, just take it off the motor shaft and flip it around backward. In that sense, they are self-sharpening. After cleaning down to bare metal, I sprayed acid-etch all over the channel to prevent future rust.
If you can get the right thickness of rubber sheet, you can cut it and set the new window glass yourself. I did it many years ago and still using it in my car today. Forgot what thickness rubber I used though.
If you would look in your '55 Ford car shop manual, it has excellent instructions and illustrations showing how the channels are oriented in the door.

Thanks all.

And yeah they are hard to find. The ones at Macs do not look like them even if they say they are.

If you are talking about the glass run there is a fix I have used over the years and it holds up perfectly. The thread about half way down shows and explains the operation.

How did the tailgate turn out?

Tailgate I guess will be a frankenford deal. Since the license plate holder I have and came with the car is for earlier model I will just have to try and make up a gasket for it. I do have the correct bracket but not the license plate piece that swings up and anyway it does not match up to the holes in the door, Ah the joys of old cars.
