Default 35 Pickup Hood Emblems

Cleaning up parts to re-assemble the 35 pickup. These Hood emblems need some help. The 3 small threaded rusty bolts have smooth oval heads and must have been pressed in or a carriage head type. Can they be replaced or should I deal with them in place ?. Also are the emblems all chrome ?. No blue background ?. Thanks

I think the background was blue as mine show remnants of it. I would try to save the fasteners if you can.

For my 1939 PU i bought some #8- 32 stainless carriage style bolts. I forget where I bought them, but the #8 size was an odd ball as most suppliers only went down to a #10.

The original ones are solid brass just plated chrome, I know cause I've tried cleaning up some with steel wool and yellow comes thru. Any of them that have a blue background are re-pops. I f you look around you can find solid chrome originals, there are 3 threaded studs for mounting, 8/32?

Jakno, The original Emblems were stamped brass with a bright chrome plating. The recess areas were painted blue. The studs had 6-32 threads. This information is highlighted on the attached drawing from the Benson Ford Research Center.

Mine are originals, I have records back to '61, and have remnants of the blue paint so I know they were painted. Don has the proof above.
