Default tried to buy this on Saturday.........

seller either thought I was a scammer or? wrote the seller at 8am-I will take the car-how do you want to be paid-his response, you can look at the car next week, as I am away
I said I dont want to look at the car, just want to pay you and make it mine
for 5000.
he says, will get back to you later............ then around 5pm says he has a few interested parties........ and I would be on his list.
told him I was the easiest sale he would ever have.......
after farting around all day, I walked. why list if you dont want to sell???
I certainly dont get it............

1931 Ford Model A town car slant windshield - $5000 (Suffield)

1931 Ford model a
fuel: gas
title status: clean
transmission: manual

Thinking about selling my 1931 model A. It starts up good. Bought it a couple years ago and was told the engine was rebuilt. Needs an exhaust gasket ( have one included just never got around to it) I have it registered but haven't used it much but it always brakes fine and runs good. It's converted to hydraulic brakes and has a new master cylinder in it etc. Also newer battery and a few other parts. The interior isn't perfect but is ok as is for a driver. The doors are rusted in the bottom on the inside but an easy fix since its overall solid there. The body does has some rust but no apparent rust through - an overall solid car. It's registered in Ct. Selling with a bill of sale and a copy of my reg. ( no titles for this age in ct). Paint is a 10 footer has some cracks and peeling and the tires are a little cracked but hold air fine.block number 3533188 and registration and tag 4601458. It looks like a survivor or old resto visually and can be used as is. Selling for $5000 firm. That is a steel if you know these cars. If the ad is still up it's still for sale. Located in. Suffield ct. Cash sale only no trades unless you have a pre 1968 mustang fastback to trade me nothing else considered sorry.

I'm betting there are a few thousand of us on this forum that would buy that for $5000.00.

A couple of scenarios........
He's does this knowingly....advertise low...gets lots of interest with people willing to pay more......
or
he honestly didn't expect the results of the ad and then realizes he could make more with all the inquiries he got offering more.......

The ad says it all in the first few words. "Thinking about selling my Model A".... Craigslist Flakes...

well from his point of view (and ive been in his boat before) when someone responds to my ad and wants to buy the item THEN THERE NOW i usually hold off as it seems they are entirely too eager to meet me.

and honestly who buys a car sight unseen is probably what hes thinking too...

I know a guy that did the same thing, list low, get calls that up the price a little, (bidding war among callers) remove the add and sell it privately at the higher price.

Yep, I've run into the same thing for other items. By far the most flakes are those that don't list a phone number in the ad. Just two days ago I had one guy say he was holding it for me, then when I said I could pick the item up whenever it was best for him he quit communicating with me. I always give my phone number in my first response and ask that they call or email.

Everything you said to the seller though sounds like you are a scammer. 99% of people wouldn't buy a car site unseen. I was selling a 2000 Impala last month, and man I got the messages saying basically everything you said, I want the car, I'll send the money and pick it up. I can see why he was cautious.

I believe he went well beyond cautious. I believe he found out he could get his price so now he will raise it. Wayne

cautious? OK I get that..............

but if someone wants to send me 5000. and there is no risk to me, I certainly wouldn't
turn it down. I have bought many cars this way-wired the cash, sent cash through walmart etc.

on the other side, have sold cars to Norway, Australia, Italy etc. money was always wired, easy sales and no haggling.
no reason to be cautious if money is in your acct, you pull it out and it is in your hands............ much better then a tire kicker.

Do you know how many scammers deal bad checks and they get deposited into your account and show fine and then 2 weeks later find out it is fraud and it is all gone? That's why to be cautious. Glad it has always worked out for you though, but scammers are everywhere. I bet I got 30 text messages from scammers while I was trying to sell my Impala, all saying basically the same thing.
