Question Muffler

Has anyone ever had a baffle come loose in an Aries muffler? Happened this morning. Sure makes a rinky-tink sound.

When my cheap repro ignition switch was bad about 5 years ago, I had sever loud explosions go through my Aries stainless muffler, and thankfully no damage was done.

The muffler is about 12 years old so warranty has long expired. I have been driving A's for over 50 years and this is the first time that has happened. I have replaced it with one of the older repro mufflers for the trip to Loveland. When I get home, I'll cut a patch out and see what happened.

And no, it has never backfired.

Can a bad muffler, one with a loose baffle, cause backfire?

If the muffler is worth saving, (stainless) then I'd make the cut at the large end weld seam so you can reweld it and have it look good.

If it isn't good enough to use, then it could still make a nice cutaway display.
