Re: French Flathead Crankshaft
Its actually easy to measure the stroke if the crankshaft is not in a block.
Here's how I do it. Place a block of wood under the front and rear main bearing surface here in the U.S. I simply use a 2x4. Next rotate the crankshaft so the front rod journal is at its highest point. Now I use a carpenters adjustable square I make sure the steel scale is touching the same surface where the bottom of the blocks are sitting. Now place the adjustable square on top of the rod journal now lock it in place and mark the steel rule at the location of the square that's touching the rod journal. Next and final step rotate the crankshaft so the rod journal is now all the way down and then using the square slide it down the ruler scale until its touching the top of the journal lock the square at this position you can now measure the dimension of the stroke. Measure between the square edge that was touching the rod journal and the mark you made above on the ruler hopefully it reads 4 inch. Ronnieroadster

Re: French Flathead Crankshaft
Ronnie , I measured it up as you described and confirmed it’s a 4 in stroke crank .
Thank you |
