Default Speedometer

I am having some difficulty with my 1946 F1 speedometer I have replaced the speedometer cable but the speedometer keeps making a screeching sound.
I was wondering is it may be due to the cable not making proper contact inside the unit. Can you replace just the driving mechanism in the instrument or do you need to replace the entire instrument cluster? Does anyone know where I can locate a new instrument cluster?
Thank you for your help...

The inner cable core might have a kink in it. The needle drag cup may be sticking to the rotating magnet in the speedometer. It may stop if the speedo is lubricated. It just depends on how much wear there is in the bearings.

Try holding the speedo cable at 90 degrees just before it screws into the speedo.

it sounds like the speedometer needs serviced. It could have dry bushings that would make that sounds.

Sounds to me like either the cable, the speedometer unit or both need to pulled and lubed. You do have to pull the whole instrument cluster in order to get at the speedometer. There is a small plugged hole in the casting on the speedometer head just in front of where the cable enters it, pull the plug and oil the felt wick with some light oil. I like very light grease on the cable.
