Thanks for everyones input so far. The weekend is almost here and I am getting ready to do battle with this vent linkage again. I think I have close to 40 hours working on getting this vent linkage to work.

This is harder than a rubix cube.
I have tried every combination with the linkages. I think I am missing a piece. It would be nice to find a picture of one in working condition. A picture is worth a thousand guesses.

I purchased all of the old V8 times on a thumb drive. Thought that maybe there would be some nugget in there. I searched the index for "cowl" and "vent" separately and found a few things that were worth looking into but none of them led to anything useful. Just thought you might like to know.

Found this https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...-vent.1184330/ which shows exactly what I have. When I get home I will try and get mine working.

If you aren't already a member, consider joining the Early Ford V8 Club of America. Then you can search for 1939 truck owners and I'm sure someone who owns a truck with the same cab should be able to send you pictures of a complete and working assembly.

I tried searching for pictures or diagrams but only found info for sedan cowl vent linkages. So can any one with a truck take a few pictures up under the dash for me. Thanks

The linkage I have looks like the one in this picture.
My 39 Pickup had an aftermarket heater installed. Some fellow went nutso over it as he had never seen such a small version of a known model. The cowl handle just missed the round heater.

Weather is warming up and I got some time to work on this vent on the weekend and I still don’t have it working. At full travel the vent barely opens.

Got it fixed. I was missing a part. Found a picture that showed the mounting spacer/standoff I did not have. I made a spacer and it all fits and works.
