292 V8 carb alternative
Currently have a 56 Ford, 292, 4bbl, all original, has the Holley T-Pot carb. I rebuilt it however continues to leak gas. What carb would bolt up on this manifold and work on this engine Appreciate any input/help.

If you carb is a two barrel check out a Rochester 2g 4 bolt pattern, as for a four barrel you may have to go to an adapter, a picture would help .

I believe a Carter WCFB, a small base Rochester 4G, or a couple of very rare Strombergs have the same "square four" base as the early Holleys. I have a couple examples of the first two, so if you could post the dimensions between the mounting studs, I could check them out and make sure. Be aware the most Rochester 4G's have a larger mounting pattern, so you need an early example (pre '55).
I would suggest another "trip" through your original carb to see if the leak is something that can be repaired and make a determination from there. |

Yeah, I had forgotten about the load-a-matic distributors. Although the ones I mentioned would probably bolt to the manifold, the engine wouldn't run very well. If you have an aftermarket distributor, they might be a good choice, but if you're staying stock, you'll be better off all around getting the original carb functioning properly.

I put a Rochester 4GC from a Buick 322 on my '56 312 engine. It was almost a direct swap.

I used a 57 distributor on a 292 w ecz-g heads with a large two barrel holley. 350 cfm. Holley has the same 2 barrel with 500 cfm. Option of no electric choke. Circletrack

46 Ford, if you want to use your carb. & keep your distributer, contact"Charlie, ny" here on the Ford Barn. He will make your carburetor better than new & you can use your stock dist.. He KNOWS HIS STUF. Send him a p m & he'll answer back promptly. mike

I used Rochester small base 4 barrel carbs on my Y-Block. They are as simple as a Stromberg 97 and perform nicely. I do not remember when I installed the W&H Dual Coil distributor but it might have been at the same time I installed the dual 4-Barrels.
