Default The 1939 Windshield Frame

Dear Ford Barn,

My 1939 Car Windshield Frame is starting to deteriorate. Namely the center post at the bottom dividing the two windshields.

I have found another frame that looks similar but is not. The split separating the two halfs is much higher up on the replacement compared to the one in the car.

So my question: is a truck windshield frame different than that of the car? If so in what way and would it work in a car?

Thank you as always for your knowledge of these early V-8's.

If I remember correctly that is a 37-38 and will interchange with the 39 but the split is in a different place.

This is true! It's just a 'YEAR' thing, but the shape is the same, and the hinges at top all fit. If you've found a nice one, ya better grab it! It'll fit and work just fine.

Pretty much true... All my hinges are the same except they're old and creaky, and the shape has gone to pot.
The wife agrees with you, it is a 'YEAR' thing, and she really wants to find a nice one and grab him.

Alan.... Why don't you suggest that she advertise in the "SWAP MEET" section?

Coop, she would do that. She specifically wants a Pool Boy, but Ryan doesn't list those models in the Swapmeet.

'39 splits in the middle, earlier frames split in the lower half. So the one you currently have is likely a '37-'38 replacement. Any '37-'39 will fit either car or truck.

I have a very nice '37-39 windshield frame that is complete w/glass.
The windshield came out of a '37 Pickup that I restored in the mid 1960's, it has been hanging on the wall in my garage since '66.
Excellent condition, chrome is poor, pealing in a couple of place, very minor rust in a couple places.

With respect, what you have posted is the opposite of what is true. ‘37 through part of ‘38 split in the middle while later in ‘38 through end of production ‘39 splits with the lower section being shorter than the upper. All frames are interchangeable in the windshield opening. Check the ‘37 and ‘38/9 restoration books.

Thank you for correcting this misinformation, which was reversed in the craggy recesses of the old brain. My apologies! I find it better to keep my mouth shut most of the time . . .
