Default Repacement of Check Valve Balls in Original Shocks

I have an original shock that has leaking check valve balls in both the cover nut and in the stator.

What is the procedure for removing the old ones and replacing with new - especially the ones in the stator? Does the stator need to be removed from the body of the shock in order to do this? How is the stator removed - press?
