1936 Pick up tail gate rivets
On the 1936 Ford pick up tail gate rivets, what type of rivet head did Ford use for the rivet heads? Domed rivet head, pan head, nail head or ? I especially have to get the tailgate hinge rivet heads correct.

I believe they are called round head rivets.
If you have a question about them try contacting Mack Hils in Moberly Missouri. They reproduce an excellent Ford pickup bed and associated parts. Also, while the picture you show is of a Ford pickup tailgate, the embossed Ford was never painted other than body color in 1936. |

Re: 1936 Pick up tail gate rivets
Nels, I have the round headed rivets in stock. I can use them, but they sure do stand proud. Thanks for the advice on the painted Ford Script. I didn't know that.

I believe they were Philister or Fillister heads. G.M.

Re: 1936 Pick up tail gate rivets
G.M., If I was to use the Fillister head screws for the tail gate hinges, I would have to have their nuts located on the inside of the tailgate. While loading goods, the nuts would create damage to the merchandise while the freight was slid across the nuts. A properly peaned over rivet on the inside of the tailgate would make more sense. A rivet with a Fillister type head could be made. Which is correct? I am leaning toward a round headed rivet properly peaned over on the inside of the tailgate. What is correct? I have the means to make anything.

Mack Hills is the way to go. He has the correct rivets.
