Default Pedal Shaft and Pedal Bushings

While I have my engine out for rebuild I decided to also rebuild my bell house. No issues with the rebuild of the bell housing but my question is why I cannot get my pedals back on. I replaced the pedal shaft and pedal bushings and reamed the bushings to .875 but cannot get the pedals on. I have since tried to hone the bushings out to make them fit but have gotten to the point that the grease dimples inside the bushing are disappearing and the pedals still wont go back on the shaft. Any ideas on what the issue is or what would be a better plan of action to get the pedals back on?

Have you measured shaft OD and the bushing ID??
Did you beat on the end of the shaft to get it in the bell housing?

there are 2 shafts available,7/8ths and 3/4,check your size, that may be your problem.

I did measure the shaft and id of the bushings a while back; don't exactly remember the dimensions...However the shaft was a tight fit and I know we drove it in so I'll definitely check for mushrooming but I believe we used a 2x4 to drive it in, it's been a few months now. As for the shaft sizes I know I reamed the bushing larger than the shaft and slightly larger than what was called for and still no go...

Hopefully when you installed the new pedal shaft you did not hammer on the end of the shaft. This will mushroom the end of the shaft. Some shafts install very tight. I always put a block of wood between the end of the shaft and the hammer. For those I find really tight I resort to the shop press to install them

Anything reproduction is always suspect. I had difficulty a number of years ago from one particular supplier, the holes drilled through the shaft were not on center. The ones I currently get from Bratton's I have never had a problem with.

I'm fairly certain we used a 2x4 and a hammer but I'll check the shaft tomorrow to be certain. I knocked the bushings out if one of my pedals to see the play on the shaft without them, way too much so I guess I will just keep on honing then out until they fit at this point. Thanks for the help.
