Default My 1930 Ford Model A Finally Runs!

Since the time that the car was delivered to now i had been working on getting my 1930 Ford Model A Murray Bodied Town Sedan to run, and tonight that dream was realized! After cleaning up everything on the car from the wires to the carb I still couldn't get the car to run. I thought that maybe a new coil was in order so I put a new 6 volt coil on and still nothing. After countless hours of phone conversations with Steam Engine Pete, a fellow FordBarner who I might add really knows his Model A stuff, we discovered that the pull switch that was installed on the car was bad and therefore no current was getting to the distributer. Once that became apparent that that was why we weren't getting spark I jumped the connection and was able to get spark to the distributer. I then discovered another issue. The second and third exhaust valves were stuck open and thus there was no compression in the second and third cylinders. After taking a day of trying to get them freed up I was able to get them unstuck. Once the timing had been correctly set I tried starting the car and she fired right off with little effort. I am so happy to get the old gal started and hopefully tomorrow I can pull her out of the shop and drive it around a little in the yard. This car hasn't run in about 8 years, but I guarantee you that she will hit the road soon!

Thanks!

Mine has not run in about 40 years... Hopefully I will hear from the guy working on it for me while I am out of town within the next week that it runs. When he took the head and pans off it looked promising, but he recommended a valve job.

Good job. Always great to to get one back to running! Those John Deeres make nice barn companions. I keep an A John Deere with my As. Good luck!
