33/34 Pickup difference?
Are there any body, hood, cab differences in the 33 and 34 pickups? I just assumed they were identical and have not found info in the 33/34 Ford Book to verify.

Re: 33/34 Pickup difference?
The hood sides are different. '33 had no V-8 emblem or FORD in center of hood side where as the ' 34 had V-8 emblem and FORD in center. I think you can see that on the photo of my '34.

Re: 33/34 Pickup difference?
Grilled are different, '34 grille bars have a stainless surround. I would think some trucks were built as four cylinders, do those have a hood like the '33, without the emblem? Also, the rear of the '34 cab has an extra reveal line, it is about 3-4 inches high.

Re: 33/34 Pickup difference?
The two Grills are different. The 33 Ford Commercial Grille has an indented Oval for the Oval Ford Badge to fit into, plus there is no Chrome Strip surrounding the Bars. The 34 Ford Commercial doesn't have this Indented Oval, plus it has a Stainless Steel strip around the edge of the Bars. Please refer to above pictures of each Grille. I hope that this helps.

Re: 33/34 Pickup difference?
The 34 4cyl truck which is very uncommon had a "4" on the side of the hood in place of the "V8".I have seen only 1 set of those in 50 yrs of early V8 Ford involvement.

Functionally, the parts will interchange. You could mount a '33 hood on a '34 cab with a '34 grill shell, for example.

My early 34 has 33 hood sides. Henry used up all leftover parts.

Re: 33/34 Pickup difference?
The '34 seat back is taller than that of the '32-'33. That's why there's an extra belt rail molding (to accommodate the taller cushion so that it could be slanted back like in the earlier cabs).

Re: 33/34 Pickup difference?
Sales were slow in these depression years. Unsold units were left over, and often titled in the year that were actually sold. This has resulted confusion in later years, as to what model year the vehicle actually is.
Years ago, I owned a very nice original 33 V8 pickup that was titled as a 34. Recently I encountered a very nice and correct 32 pickup that was titled as a 33. The owner believed that it was a 33 model because of the title. I pointed out a laundry list of the minor differences, but he didn't seem to be impressed, or convinced. I stopped wasting my time. |
