Default Hagerty Car Insurance

I just purchased more antique car insurance from Hagerty Insurance, this time for our 1931 Model A Ford pick up. The pickup was added onto our present car policy that has already has ten cars on it. The pickup's serial number was given, as was its insured value of $8K, plus the approximate mileage of 500 mile/year was given. They then lowered my new over all premium by $28 a year. With the next renewal, I will have a credit waiting for me. Hagerty are good people! Buying more insurance and getting a refund at the same time will take some getting use to, but I can easily adapt.

That is good to hear thanks for forwarding. I have Hagerty and Grundy both. Good folks to work with.

Sounds like I need to combine them to just one company.

I insure with JC Taylor. It'a always been one money for any number of cars. They told me that I can only drove one at a time, so multiple cars don't cost any more than one car.
I only carry liability insurance.

That’s nice, but what will $8,000 get you if your truck is stolen or wrecked. You need it insured for at least $12,000, probably more. You’ll never get it repaired for the amount under $8,000 that’s the totalled amount. JMO

I also have Hagerty for my 4 antique/classic vehicles and am pleased with the cost. I also have agreed value with them. My vehicles are a big investment and if something were to happen to them I would suffer a significant loss without the insurance.

Have an accident and see how they treat you. My '55 Chevy was broadsided 10 weeks after i bought it. I was sick over it, and the hag's team were out to lunch....calls never returned, i was in the dark until Farm Bureau took over. The guy that hit me had Farm Bureau, and they held my hand through the entire ordeal. Daily calls and an offer of a rental along with $25 per day for my troubles. Maybe if the accident was my fault the haggers would have been more human, but after that, i dropped them like a bad habit and went with American Modern. You don't know how good your insurance is until you have a claim.

I've never had to use (Hagerty) yet, but with your story...
You've definitely got my attention.

It is true that you never know how good your insurance is until you have an accident. Cost alone is not always an indicator. I would like to know how Hagerty responds to your post. From what you have said, I am not sure I get that warm and fuzzy feeling about them.. Has anyone else had a negative experience with them?

I would Love to hear how hagerty responds to my post!! I will never forget the names of the entire ball-dropping staff, all the way up to the manager. Notice i didn't have a claim, they paid out nothing, Farm Bureau covered the damage, so maybe all insurers are this way. I never had a accident before this, but my first contact was with hagerty, and they could have told me to contact Farm Bureau and not bother them with a claim they aint paying for. Instead, they would tell me they were taking care of everything and to wait for a call from them...and the calls were never, not once, returned. I felt out of place calling them, like i was bothering them, but call i did, every day until Farm Bureau stepped in.

Up until now we've heard nothing but good things about Hagerty. I hate to see someone register a grudge and then people start with "I'll never buy anything from Hagerty" without hearing the whole story. I can understand Fritznbud being upset that Hagerty didn't respond to his calls, but as far as I can tell, the damage here was paid for. Who knows what Hagerty did behind the scenes? Usually insurance companies do talk to one another.

I tried to get the 10% discount they advertise for theft preventatives and got a cold shoulder from the rep and had to pry the info on how I go about it and he still gave me very little info but a great big "Cold Shoulder"!! It left me with a real bad taste.

MMM good thread as I just visited with my State Farm agent yesterday for a review of all my insurance needs. I told them I need to go elsewhere for the Model "A". Not meant as a threat, but reality. Somehow through time I "thought" I had replacement insurance of $20,000. Several years ago I realized it's insured for a declared value of $13,000. Current market price. My agent was nice but said matter of factly that State Farm is NOT in the antique car game. Something I learned years ago from a seasoned insurance adjuster is no matter who your insurer is ALWAYS go directly to the exclusion page. That's the meat and potatoes of your policy.

But State Farm is in the homeowners insurance business, and that means (sometimes) antiques doesn't it? What makes antique cars any different? All I can think of, they don't want the exposure. People don't park their Chippendale dining set in the street after all, they don't have trees fall on them, drunk drivers etc.

I have Grundy, I like them because unlimited mileage and they paid full insured value and you can buy your car back if you want.

Was it a local AGENT that did you wrong?
I have heard NO PROBLEMS with Hagerty prior to this revelation.
Hagerty paid VERY QUICKLY and generously following SANDY hitting Long Island, too.
