j: Sounds like you might have the rear sump 49-51 Merc oil pan as shown in #26 of the site mentioned above. It fits the 49-51 Merc pressed steel bellhousing. However, just for the heck of it remove those bolts and bracket and see if it will then fit your 8RT bellhousing. Here is a photo of the 49-51 merc pressed steel bellhousing with 49-51 Merc rear sump oil pan on an 8BA. Transmission is 1940 ford. That Y shaped attachment in the first photo is an aftermarket anti-chatter bracket that was made for 40-48 Fords.

Glenn.......You must place your cursor OVER the QUESTION MARKS in the circle. A window will pop-up to display the details for each one. DD

If he has a truck, the truck oil pans don't use the L-bracket to the bellhousing. The pan has an integral bracket. Truck starter plates are recessed across the width of the oil pan to clear the "dust seal" that bolts on the back of the pan.

Ross,
My '52 C1BA/8RT has a loose bracket that appears similar to the one in post#6 that 52 Merc-CT shows. The only difference is there are two nuts that hold it to the bottom of the pan and two threaded holes in the part that faces towards the starter plate & bellhousing.
...Terry
?! -52 Merc-CT's post just disappeared?!

i have the unpainted pan in #25 pic
so yes i think i need a truck starter plate ,which is flat except where the starter bolts on,as my plate has a raised lip across the bottom
and my bellhousing is cast, not pressed

I wonder if you have a Merc oil pan? That's what I'm running.

Ross,
It is interesting to see the differences in the oil pans and the brackets.
Mine is a '52 Ford 8RT truck oil pan, but maybe different being a Canadian truck, Eh?
Also mine doesn't have the dust shield like you showed previously. I think my starter plate is supposed to have a molded rubber strip along it's upper edge, but I'm not sure of that, it's missing.

Wow, never seen one like that, Terry! Does the pan have any stampings, in particular a C8RT-6675, indicating Canadian?

Ross,
I don't think there are any part number stampings. I went over nearly every square inch when I cleaned, sanded & painted it. I usually make note of any #'s I come across, but I'll take it off the shelf and have another look.

That is definitely a different form of truck pan. It may be a Canadian Ford only part. The US built pans all have the aluminum back plate with the long dust seal. That one looks like a different form of the Mercury type design but with a deeper sump and a clean out for trucks.
