Default E'28 Center Bumper Medallion

A May/Jun 2005 article by Doc Kalinka discussed the center front bumper medallion.

He states that the “Ford script + Made in USA” medallion was a carry over from the Model T, had a black background, and used a 5/8” threaded stud with a 1-1/2” x 2-1/8” ‘flat’ backing plate.

He speculated that the second style, Ford script only, was introduced in March/April 1928 and that it had a blue background and used a 7/16” threaded stud with a 2” x 1-1/2” “footed” (U) shaped backing plate.

Is there information more precisely dating the transition from the first to second style?

In his Tech 101 article, May/June 2011, the "made in USA" was removed early January 1928.

He talks about both in the article...have you not got it yet?

Black background with the "made in USA" clamp...no mention of backing plate but I think it is mentioned in the RG's.

Charlie, I recommend you use the first style. If Doc is correct you are still covered by the "60 day" rule. I have not had any discussions with the usual suspects regarding engineering drawings or releases wrt the center clamp.

The January 1, 1928 Dealer Price List cross reference to Model T part numbers on a number of items, however no cross reference is listed on the Center Bumper Medallion; I always felt it was because the Black background was changed to Blue ? I believe the JS accepts either Black or Blue on the background. I also believe the same backing plate as used on the T is applicable to the early A's. As Steve says, use the 60 day rule and install the earliest Center Bumper Medallion.
