Default Early Head? - JS page 3-1

Does anyone have a picture showing the complete distributor lock screw boss? The picture in the JS shows a top view.

Attached is a picture showing the boss from a side view. I don't know if this is actually the early head.

Neil, I don't have a photo right now but the boss is round, 5/8" O.D. and about 3/16" wide. The distributor set screw is obviously longer but Doc Kalinka made some up and he has them available.

Neil,
I would say no to your head, it looks like it has a spotface. Is that correct? I looked
through all my heads, 2-3 years ago looking for an early head and found 1. If I
recall( the head is at home ) there is just a" round casting " about the same size
as the nut for the stud. Make sense? Also, your casting runs all the way down
to the gasket surface, which I believe is wrong. At this point I'm 99% sure.

The head which I showed in the picture has the top section which looks like the one shown in the JS. I am sure that the boss should be a raised and a complete round look.

So, Dudley, I would really like to get some pictures showing the completely round boss from the angle I showed.

What about the holes in the heads water jacket? Was there not a head without the large hole in the center?

Yes, almost half the heads didn't have the center oval hole. It started in October 1929.
