Question Front wheel bearing "seal" ?

Hi Guy's,,

Does anyone know if a grease seal can be installed in the front hub ? Why was it left out ?.. I wouldn't call the steel baffle a "seal" ...

My thery is that in the era fording a stream was not unusual, the design is such that if water got in it would go out quick, if there was a seal there and no dust cap on the outer end it would retain anything that got inside ---the service interval was short also. --perhaps it was just cheaper to make --there were many other cars made, I just took apart the brakes on a Chrylser ( plymouth, dodge), it has a seal, but how many of them do you see? ---the Mopars also have hydraulic brakes, that didn't make them survive better either.

My guess is the way the wheel & hubcap fit the area is pretty well protected. They started using the cap in late 31 about when the spoke drums came out. The area was no longer closed.

the cap is just that . a dust cap put on after the nut is set & cotter pin installed . nothing to do with the bearings .... just a dust cap like most all '50s / '60s cars .
