Default 1946-48 Ford/ Mercury Convertible Top Fixings

Hi All,
I am about to install a convertible top on my car which did not have one when I bought it. Can anyone tell me what these two fastener holes do (on both sides). They have a fine thread button head machine screw in them.
Do they help hold the pads in position, or are they for securing the top itself along the sides of the irons?
Any help appreciated
Dave

The recesses in frame are for the base of snaps. Your top should have pockets on each side that line up with those recesses for the head of snaps and it helps keep the top flush and also keeps the snaps from being seen I don’t know how to post pictures but would be happy to take some & send to your email.

Those are snap holes that held the "quick release" snaps on the sides of the top. We used to get them from LeBaron Bonney, which is no longer in business. They were supposed to release when the top was raised. They didn't always work, and can tear the flap. Most good auto trim shops have them.

Thank you both.
Do you mean something like this ? I got the right hand one from Le Baron a few years ago.

They work , my top has 4 pockets on each side, but I only used 3, without them the top sound like a tent flap blowing in the wind.
