Re: Rear axle/wishbone destroyed
It's old time Hot Rod stuff, but you need access to a machine shop. Mine is set up with 9 inch Ford axles and backing plates. Later model side gears that are compatible with the axles you are using have to added. Then the carrier and ring gear have to be machined to match the side gears. The new axles have to be cut to length and resplined. The ends are cut off the original axle bells and new ends welding on for the axle and backing plates you are using. Mine was a V8 center quickchange setup, but it is basically the same as a standard banjo rear axle machine work wise.
Notice all the tube front axles on the pallet in the last photo? Not all of Speedways stuff is made overseas! Last edited by JSeery; 07-21-2017 at 12:51 PM. |

Damn! I think you may be right! I had them back in a corner of my shop and never really looked at them until "RusterJunk" expressed some interest. (I've been out of pre-8BA stuff for a while now). Oh well! "RustedJunk"; I hope you are following this! |

Re: Rear axle/wishbone destroyed
How the hell I ended up with two from the same side is beyond me. I remember picking up a '48 rear-end from a guy who wanted it gone. I took it apart because I wanted to use the radius rods for another project. Well, if it will do any good, you can still have one or both of them. As luck would have it, it looks like the one you need, and you can choose the best one. From the looks of it, you may be able to get by with the shackle that's already in it.

Re: Rear axle/wishbone destroyed
If your rear axle and brakes are good, other than the messed up hanger on the R/H bell; seems Tubman's offer of the one free bell would be the way to go. Not rocket science to switch out one side bell while the rear is in the car. Could turn out better than starting over with an unknown used rear axle assy, maybe even less work overall, too.

Re: Rear axle/wishbone destroyed
If your just changing the bell, it makes no difference, since you don't have to pull the carrier/axle assembly.
