Re: Would you run new 1980s tyres
A trip to hospital after any road accident costs nothing here
Says a socialist until they run out of other people's money. If it was me, I would take a very critical look at the tires and use some common sense. As many have said here, if they are pliable and not cracked, run them but keep an eye on them. Maybe better than some modern tires. I have Chinese made tires on my modern car, I keep an eye on them. I also think about the Chinese quality control when I'm running down the road at 80MPH! =I

In the long run, it is not other people's money - it's mine paid in instalments each year when I renew my registration - there is a premium built in to cover the costs. It is just a form of insurance - not socialism and quite sustainable. It has been this way for as long as I can remember (I'm 70). America's national debt - $US55,000 for every man, woman and child. Australia's - $A14,320 ($US 10,000) Who's gunna runout of other people's money first?

Re: Would you run new 1980s tyres
I had a pair of Universal tires that were still in the paper spiral wrap when I bought them. Have no idea how old they were, but when unwrapped looked and felt good. They are now on a trailer that a friend was building to pull behind his Model A.
