I think you have one with little hole in 2nd gear and has small spring loaded you have to push it in.

There is a special procedure for unlocking and removing second gear on the 32-38 type gearset. We explain the job in our trans book along with step by step pics. You need to be careful not to lose the spring and plunger, or damage the lock key. We have those if you do.

If you have a '39 transmission that uses the earlier gears, this post has some explanations with pictures that may help.....

Tks for your help guy's, I gotter figured.
Depress pin and push the key in far enough to clear the thrust washer 7071. Turn the thrust washer to align the splines and the washer comes off along with the gear. It is the thrust washer that keeps the gear on. The key fits into one spline of the thrust washer to keep it from turning.
tks agn

I think I better clarify my last. Take the key right out. I have ground my key so there is just enough clearance to push it in. TAKE KEY OUT !
