Default Hot 33

My 33 got hot the last time I used it with the caravan on the back,
So I have looked at it the last few days,
I have a new radiator on hand, plus water pumps etc.
Today ,taking the rad hoses off the heads I see some yellow stuff in the water passages of the heads, so I take the heads off and see the problem,
I have NOT been as diligent as I should be on the coolant.
Looking at the filters in the top hoses and the top of the radiator core, both as clean as a whistle, so I will just clean the heads and block passages and fit new gaskets AND coolant.
The 33 had a bit of work done lately, new king pins and bushes, U/joint, brake rod and cross shaft clevaces repaired and new pins made.
I hope to have it back together in a day or so, as I want to go away for a few days with it and the caravan.

Lawrie, fit some cast iron replacement type heads on her. Also a pair of the new type water pumps with improved impellers and bearings instead of bushes. Worked great on my 34 sedan. Regards, Kevin.

Do not use those copper gaskets and always use a 50/50 coolant mix using distilled water. All modern manufacturers use composite gaskets with aluminum heads and iron blocks. Edelbrock recommends composite Felpro gaskets with their heads. I have pulled many aluminums heads off of modern engines at work and there was never any electrolysis's around the water jackets in the heads like I see on Flatheads. Change the coolant every two-years. I'm guilty too of not changing it like I should. Whatever you do do not run straight water.

Thanks friends,
Today I also found another problem, the supposed stainless screens I had put in the top hoses were not real good stainless and had a rusted hole in the centre, alowing the yellow crud to get through and block some of the radiator cores, so I will pull the radiator and fit the nice new one in the next day or so, and make up some better stainless filter screens, plus use only the pink Toyota coolant in it from now on.
Kevin, my engine is a 99A and has the nice new pumps with the bearings and good impellers, they have been on for a while now.
Heads are back on with best gaskets graphite ones.

I thought Toyota coolant does not protect copper or brass. Unless there are different types of pink and red?

Scotty, I will check before I fill it up.
Thanks for the heads up.
Maybe Penrith here in Australia will have something.

It's been at least 12 years since I did an engine swap in my Toyota so maybe the coolant has changed?

I found out when I put a 3.4 V6 from a 4Runner into my 88 pickup. I was blasted on the forums saying my engine would fail without the red or pink coolant. At the time it said it protected cast iron and aluminum. Does not protect brass and copper. I still have the copper/brass radiator and heater core so I have been running the universal green stuff which protects all metals and is compatible with the gaskets.
