32 sedan rear upholstery panel
After looking at the pics posted here of 32Tudor interiors, a question popped in my head.
What was/is used for the interior rear quarter panel. Is it two piece or a formed one piece to go over the wheel well? Or is there just a flat panel over the window mechanism and the carpet alone covers the wheel well? Last edited by hotrodA; 02-08-2019 at 11:46 AM. |

Re: 32 sedan rear upholstery panel
When I did my 32 tudor many yrs ago it was a one piece flat panel. No carpet covering the wheel well. Here is a pic of my '33 tudor which in effect is similar.

Re: 32 sedan rear upholstery panel
If I recall isn't the wheel well completely behind the panel?

Re: 32 sedan rear upholstery panel
Is your Tudor a standard or deluxe version? Either way the quarter trim panel is in one piece. If it is a deluxe model, the lower 5" or so of the trim panel is covered in the same carpet as that on the floor and has arm rests attached to it. If it is a standard model, there's no carpeting along the bottom and no arm rests (and no ash trays).
The photo below shows some of the quarter trim in a highly-original deluxe Tudor. |

Re: 32 sedan rear upholstery panel
Thanks guys. BTW, it's a standard.
These pics may better explain my confusion. As you can see the wheel well kicks in from the vertical flat plane of the quarter panel.. So the upholstery panel is made flat and just bends inward to under the garnish molding? Last edited by hotrodA; 02-09-2019 at 08:19 PM. |

Re: 32 sedan rear upholstery panel
The rear panel tucks under the garnish molding and follows the rear edge of the door opening. The windlace attaches first and the panel butts up against it.
A new panel is flat initially and eventually will bend/conform to the shape of the 1/4 panel/wheelhouse. The upholstery panel is covered by the seat bottom and back rest where it ends. There is a small triangular block of wood that holds the bottom of the panel nearest the rear door opening. That wood helps it assume the necessary shape.

Re: 32 sedan rear upholstery panel
If you look closely at the floor about 2.5 in. back from the door edge you will see a 1/4 in hole...... look for the same hole on the opposite side. That's for the screw that holds the block. The block is about 1 1/4 tall off the floor. About 2 1/4 long and looks like an abbreviated triangle. The right angle side follows the 1/4 panel and the angled side aligns the bottom face of the panel with the bottom of the garnish molding. Maybe DavidG has a picture.

Re: 32 sedan rear upholstery panel
I have a block, if you want I will make a drawing of it and send it to you. Might be a couple of days, but I will draw it up, and post it. Just let me know.
