Default Will a Runtz voltage drop work on a clock?

My question is in the title, I'm changing my '51 Tudor to 12v positive ground. Have begun collection the big and small stuff needed, and am wondering if the same Runtz volt drop devices that work well on the gauges, work on the clock?

Is it an original style clock?
I don’t have first hand experience but from what I understand the power to the clock just goes to turn the clock spring. It may work fine on 12 volts.

The Runtz voltage drop unit will not be able to supply enough current (amps) to wind the clock spring reliably. Buy a cheap China made voltage drop unit on ebay which will supply 2 or 3 amps to do the job better. Dont run your 6 volt clock on 12 volts because the coil winding contacts wont last long with twice the current flowing through them. Regards, Kevin.

Don't know how long it would last but what about a small 6 volt battery?

Thanks guys for the responses. I will consider my options on this while I continue the process of transitioning from 6v to 12v on my '51.

Yes Joe does! He breathed life into my '39 Merc clock.

I had Williamson's convert two clocks to a quartz movement. Great job. The first on was done almost 20 years ago and still works like a charm. It was a 6 volt 54 clock. At the time, he was the least expensive of all I looked at.
