Default Rear spring

I recently ordered a 10 leaf rear spring for my '31 Tudor from a Model A parts supplier. I was told that they were out of stock and would have to back order. Weeks later, still no spring. I contacted another parts supplier. They also didn't have one in stock. I contacted Posies Spring Company and received no response to my email. I think they are the ones that are making the springs for our hobby. Does anyone know if these springs are still being manufactured. If so, where can I buy one. Thanks....Nick

Posies makes an excellent spring with teflon buttons at the end of the leaves. I have one for my RDPU but I haven't installed it yet. Having said that they don't look original. If you want original check to see how the ends of the leaves are finished. Check for advertisements in the Model A News and The Restorer.

I picked up mine at Hershey last year. You must take the spring apart and paint and grease. Then install the first leaf on rear. Then the rest. I found this to work best for me. My spring spreader was to unstable to get that last 1/2"

On the subject of springs, can anyone confirm the number of leaves (?) on the front spring for an AA with metal dump body. Current one has 14 leaves. As I also understand it, the shackles for this front spring are actually the ones used in the rear for the standard model A.

Thanks,

Kieran

Standard for the 1930-31 short wheel base was 13 leaves, a 14 leaf spring was optional and standard on the long wheel base.

You could take your old spring to a spring shop and have it reached. I took the ones from my 28 Packard to a place in LA, and they did a great job reaching them.

Kieran: Yes, that is true. I made that happy discovery this past summer comparing AA front shackles to car rear shackles. They interchange. mike
