Default Multimeter Device

I'm constantly searching at flea markets for a correct dash light switch for
my 35. As many of you know the 35 and 36 switches operate the opposite of each other so I need to figure out what type multimeter would indicate to me if a switch is on when pulled out or when pushed in. Experience has taught me that just because there's a correct 35 knob on a switch is not a guarantee it's a correctly operating one. I own a nice little Radio Shack multimeter and I just bought new batteries for it but I'd like to have a device that would make a sound, light up or something to indicate when the power is being transferred from one switch terminal to the other on a switch I'm thinking about buying but
my meter doesn't do that. Automotive electronics is not one of my strong areas of expertise.

You'll use the continuity test feature to check the operation of a switch.

This and with a buzzer if the circuit is complete to double check the reading.

Not sure how much you want to spend, but Fluke is the industry standard. Will probably be the last one you'll ever need to buy.

Even the cheap ones now have a capacitance test feature on them these days. It's for testing condensers; I'd want that capability.
