How to ID an oil pump & rear main drain tube?
I have an oil pump with the following # stamped on it :8BA600 24. It's 4.5" long from the mounting flange (block interface) to the bottom plate, the the gear is 1.3" long. Can anyone help me figure out if it's a long or a short and is it a 50 or 80 psi pump, and what style of pickup tube is needs? Next what should I make the rear main oil drain tube out of, and what is the shape - geometry?
Thanks

if it has 8ba in the numbers it should be a 49 and up short, 80 lb pump. the pick up tube depends on your oil pan. no need for the rear drain tube

Re: How to ID an oil pump & rear main drain tube?
Thanks. I didn't provide enough data the last time. Number is 8BA 6004, or 6BA6004 (it's hard to read). Will this pump be OK in a 36 FH-V8? If yes Is it OK to cut the oil pan baffling to accommodate the pickup tube? If no what type of oil pump & pickup tube /screen do I need?
Next my oil pressure dash gauge is max 50lb (36 pickup OEM) . What sender should I use 50lb or 80lb? Do I need to add a resistor in the line? Thanks

The sender needs to match the gauge. Cutting the baffling can get tricky, they need to be there. If you cut the existing one you need to figure out how to replace it. I think it would be much easier to get the correct pump. There is no need for a 80 psi pump unless something is different about the engine requiring it.

Re: How to ID an oil pump & rear main drain tube?
Thanks for pointing me in the correct direction.. Now I need to figure out if the 68-6600, https://thirdgenauto.com/product/reb...pump-assembly/or 18-6600,https://thirdgenauto.com/product/reb...pump-assembly/,or this one (see screen shot of Mac's page as the link won't work), or something else will be compatible with my oil pan.
Do you have any recommendations? Thanks

Third Gen Automotive Phone: 844-327-5988 http://www.vanpeltsales.com/ 1-513-724-9486 Lots of good information on this site! Best to call to get the correct information. Another good option is to rebuild an original, or just clean one up and check it out. The original pumps just about last forever. Other good parts sources are: https://www.joesantiqueauto.com/ https://cgfordparts.com/ And I also like Red's: http://reds-headers.com/html/flathead_eng.html For a lot of individual items, such as carburetors, distributors, fuel pumps, coils, water pumps, etc and associated parts, there are folks here are the Barn that can provide you the best there is! good time to check out the dip stick boss. they are known to weep oil if loose, and check threads for the tube. they are not tapered pipe thread if i remember correctly.
