Re: Looking for Floating brgs ..
keep in mind if you have ford bearings they were available in oversize OD for rebuilt rods. you have a p/n? also how are you measuring the bearing? across the split or at 90*? the bearings are not round they need to be fitted to the crank by slightly pinching or spreading at the split

Re: Looking for Floating brgs ..
jetmek, I measured the brgs at 90* from the split, Im thinking I have a set of over sized OD brgs for reconditioned rods ..
The brgs lay right on the crank, and I put 1 rod on, with the brgs, I snugged it down with a speed handle and the brg spun on the crank, but was locked in the rod.. |

Re: Looking for Floating brgs ..
check the inside oil groove with a magnifying glass it mite have a ford script and a letter. you can refer to the ford parts greenbook to determine the bearing size by the letter

Re: Looking for Floating brgs ..
It looks like your bearings are around 4 x thou ? thou over size on the od, you could get your rods re sized to fit ,

Are you Shure your crank is plus 20 ,a std crank is 1.999 , less 10 or 20 if you have ground it Last edited by FlatheadTed; 07-11-2019 at 08:40 PM. |

Re: Looking for Floating brgs ..
The rod should measure 2.220 crank at 1.977 you need a bearing that is .21215 for zero clearance A .119 sounds like a .020 under beating. Which would be pretty tight. However you don't know if the bearing is round. This is done by tapping the edge down some and checking for roundness. You must fit the bearings to the rods and rank, I use a bearing mike for the bearings. Once you have the bearings, scrub them with fine scuff pads and clean with hot soapy water. Last check make sure the bearings have at least .012" side clearance on the crank to aid in oil flow theough he bearings. Rod clearance for street is .006/.008. I like them loose .008/.010

Re: Looking for Floating brgs ..
If you have a set of .020 .008 it must be cheaper to hone the rods then buy a new set of bearings...atleast in my end of the world...

Re: Looking for Floating brgs ..
I wouldn´t worry to much about the balancing...if it´s that critical when you use a lighter STD set of bearings then it was balanced for...are you balancing it again ?
If it´s real high HP perhaps you could say the rods are a tad stronger at STD... |
