Question - C59A Oil Pan Gasket (Felpro) Instsllation
I should have probably asked this question before I buttoned up the bottom end, but I guess it is never too late. It was also bothering me a bit ever since I installed the gasket and oil pan. The question is should the gasket be notched around the front rope seal that is installed in the timing cover gasket? I did not notch the gasket and installed it as is, because they didn’t do it in one of the flathead engine books I purchased. Then, I watched a YT video which shows a gasket that is notched to fit around the rope seal. So are both methods acceptable?

I notched mine because the rope seal sits above the mating surface on the block and the pan a little. A dab of RTV will seal any voids left.
