Default Door gap leading edge 31 roadster

Hello, fitting repro door to original 31 roadster, I have it even but at 1/4 inch seems somewhat large . Have it shimmed forward on hinges to get it closer, hinge would need bending, anyone else have experience on this or what is usual front door gap?

At latch about 3/16 and not rubbing on upper body.

With repo doors that’s about as good as I’ve seen them
Also how’s the side gap? Does the edge of the door fit the quarter?
I’ve had trouble with the vertical gap not following the qtr.
It would help if the door jambs and skins weren’t spot welded until the door could be fit to the body

The front contour fits along the cowl ok , the back has the usual close at top and larger at bottom, body is sprung , can see usual crack under body filler at upper quarter.Looking at the original door fit it is closer to the cowl than before. The only adjustment I can see is to bend or trim back thickness of hinge the original ones are thinner than repro

Did you correct any frame sag? That can cause improper alignment.

Just finished shimming and fitting my 31 roadster and the only way I could get the gap close in the front was to bend the hinge half that attaches to the body and not the one on the door. Bend it forward. It doesn't take much. This will effect your gap at the latch also and you may have to shim the firewall.

Hello again, thanks for all the posts, I do have shims on door post to hinge to move it forward.Looking a picture of original door, it is actually closer now with the repro door.As far as door opening it doesn’t rub or hit anything, lower part of door is away from body, but this is due to upper body being sprung, can see crack at upper post . Still plan to work on it more with hinge to get it closer. Not sure what gaps were when new.

Hello again, checked the judging guide, really doesn’t seem to mention gap size dimension, other than 1/4 or less between body and apron. I will fit opposite side and see how that turns out.

1/4” is too wide
Don’t have one in shop but recollection is 1/8” no more than 3/16”
Like a lot of things “you’ll know it when you see it”

I’d suggest a shop press…not a Tennessee wrench (big hammer).

Post #5.. The door should overlap the rear panel, never seen one fit inside the door jam?? My roadster door overlaps in the rear, also my 30 4doors also over lap!!

You are correct there is a over lap on the lower body, belt line down, I was referring to the upper top edge at the body belt line Roadster have a slight overlapping there.
