Re: 35/6 pu Frankenstein thingy
8ba tear down. The oil galley plug was a pain. Why was it a flat head bolt, I really hate those. I ended up drilling a pilot in it, opening up to a .221 twist drill for some bite with a large easy out. Heat and wax, then the easy out finally broke it loose. Taking extreme careto not force the easy out so I wouldn't have a bitch to deal with later. I did a lot of cleaning up on the block before cause I didn't want a fire expecting torch and or welding on that plug.
Some light touches in the ports to get rid of ridges and casting bumps. Not really a port job, mostly just getting the thick layer of carbon out. I'm going or have already rolled the dice. It wasn't much time into the block so far. I'll clean up the heads next. And I'm currently thinking I might bolt the heads back on and fill the water jackets with vinegar for they couple weeks. As that's the visual inspection problem area. After this I gotta decide on stock or adjustable lifters, drill for locking the lifters if I go that way. Then find someone I trust in Southwest Ohio to bore and possibly sleeve a cylinder. I still haven't taken measurements of everything yet. |

Re: 35/6 pu Frankenstein thingy
A small update. Right hood side. The pic in primer is today, the other is after making a bottom cowl corner patch, welding up a number of cracks including 5 or six severed louvers and quite a bit of work in overall straightening the panel but before I even began straightening up the mess of louvers

Patching up and modifying 37 inner fenders for the 36. Also a pic of my first molasses rust removal, on some old wheels, this is after a five day soak, it went back in but I became a believer in that I might get a set of wheels out of the pile now.

Re: 35/6 pu Frankenstein thingy
Friday stuff.
A small update just to keep up with the project, it is slow going, but not abandoned. Been messing around with some hood tops. They were in bad shape. I'm no experienced panel beater but I got them pretty close, but after all the work patching banging and shrinking the neglected tops and replacing the center hinge flange I'm not entirely happy. I may still use them, but I decided to make an attempt at making my first hood. Slip roller is just a couple inches short to do it in one piece. |
