Saw one video where shims, if required are added at top end of king pin, ie top of axle eye. Another showed shims being added below bearing.
I would think the top side is the place to fit instead of at the bearing area.
Or is it not important?

I've always put them between the bottom of the bearing and the axle.

I prefer them at the top, that way they take up the clearance but the bearing won’t exert pressure on them and damage them.

I have done both and seen ones I placed on the bottom get worn and “squished out” from the weight. So definitely top.

Definitely the top of the pin, as Ralph says the weigh on the bottom will chew up spit them out over tome. I tried it both ways.
