Default Ign points, again

My '51 8n tractor started running badly last week, acted like it wasn't getting gas at first. I remembered an old friend from the 60's who told me that 9 out of 10 problems with these old gas engines would seem like it was a gas problem and 9 out of 10 times it would be the ign. Well, I looked
at the points and they were burned so I put in a new set that I had gotten from one of the parts people and it wouldn't start at all. No spark. Yesterday I got a set at tractor supply and put them in and it fired off the first round. The set from Tractor Supply was from Canada and the first set was from south of the border. If I remember correctly, they are the same points as the Shoebox dist. Another source that isn't from China or Mexico.

Our local Ford Tractor (New Holland) dealers keep pretty decent supplies of quality 8 and 9 N Ford tractor pieces. I think part of that is that there are an amazing number of those tractors still working daily in this area.

We don't have Tractor Supply here locally but have some other good sources.

We have a 9N down at my Moms that is used primarily to push snow in the winter. It's a work horse and not a show horse.

Keep an eye on your oil bath air filter, I had a mouse decide that would be a good home and plugged up most of the air intake, started hard and ran lousey. Ken
