Default Carburetor Problem Question

Within the last three or four days I read a post about problems concerning the carburetor which interested me. In the post the individual stated something to the effect that "turn the GAV in until the motor quits". What I would like to know is there anything that this proves if the motor does not quit other then the GAV is too worn or the matting surface is too worn?

By the way I have tried to find this in the search with no results!
