Default Hood Pad (Lacing) for 1932 Model B Tudor

Looking for where to find the best hood pad for the radiator shell and the firewall. I purchased one from a supplier and I believe it is of the soft core referred to in David Rohr’s 1932 Ford Book. Does anyone know where I can find one with the hard core similar to the original?

Unfortunately, I believe that the hard core lacing is no longer manufactured.

With the lack of the original style hard lacing I have ended up running the currently available lacing thru a roller to flatten it enough for proper hood fit.

Krylon,

We are obviously writing about different sources for the currently-available webbing. What I am referring to is too soft and compresses over time changing the hood fit. The last thing it needs is to be flattened initially. Please enlighten me as to the source of the webbing that you are referring to.

Thanks.

The last couple of 32's I've done I'm reasonably sure I sourced both ends of the hood lace from Drake. The rear worked all right but the front was too thick and had to be flattened so the hood edge did not stick above the top edge of the shell. Both cars had original shells and firewalls. David, where do you source your webbing? I'm sure what you use is far superior to what I have. I remember when I built my first few 32's the lacing available worked good.

The quick answer is that I don't source it, present tense, but rather saw the writing on the wall once I heard that the EPA was out to ban the process used to make the hard core material. I bought enough for all my projects of the various types used on '32-'36 Fords and my '31 Lincoln. Some came from ebay, but most from A&L in Connecticut.

On my 32 Cabriolet, I'm missing the lacing on ONE side of the grille - would LOVE to find an original one. Anybody happen to have a spare original? I'd prefer to NOT put any new stuff on the car if I can help it.
