Default 35 Tudor find, purchase, luck, and just huh...

Hey early Ford fans... So I happened along this 35 Tudor for sale and took a chance. Boxes of parts, drivetrain intact... your typical "stalled project". No real clue on how long it's been out of comission but some misc boxes have dates from the 80's. It's passed through a couple owners but noboy has ever done anything to it, left the boxes alone, and just put it in storage for "the next build". Once I got it home I have been trying to decipher the history of the car but it's got so many twists and turns... I'm only doing it through "archeology digging" since nobody knew the history. Here's what I've got so far...

1. It was originally black, deluxe(?) then possibly white, then blue.
2. All original woodgrain dash and garnish moldings are in mint shape
2A. Deluxe gauges, radio head, but I thought the horn button was special on a deluxe?
3. Juice brake conversion
4. Engine- ok so it's a 37-38, but has the block off plates and 35(?) heads. Where things start to get weird is that the engine and trans, while dusty, are immacualte. The cylinders have no ridges at all, and are standard. The lifter galley is ridiculously clean... It's currently stuck but nothing shows that I can't get it loose or just take it apart. I do know it was rotated about 5-6 years ago.
5. With the exception of the tail roll pan, the sheet metal is immacualte. I guess it was projected by layers of paint lol.

Anyway, it's really an awesome car. Plan is to get close to "restoration" but I'll add my touch to it. I do my own upholstery so it will probably get leather and tweed but look proper. Maybe a little vintage hop up stuff for the flatty... I'll try to post more as I get into it.

No ring ridge and stuck... Maybe ring gaps too close or main caps mixed up? Hope you get that one up and running, it's the best of the 21 stud engines. Love those slantbacks!

Good find. Add a dropped axle and some big and little tires on the wires and it will look cool.

That looks to be in excellent shape. I had a '36 DeLuxe "flatback" in the '60's.

Is it just me or were most "flatbacks" DeLuxes and the "trunkbacks" Standards? Seems that way to me, but I'm a shoebox guy, so .

I tried to convince my friends that mine was a '36 "Victoria".

No, that's not true, I know of many '35 standard model tudor and fordor flatback/slantback sedans. I personally have two original '35 standard flatback/slantback sedans, a tudor and a fordor.

Nice find, congratulations. That's definitely one of my favorite early Ford body styles.

So here's some updates on the 35... Just a little Gibbs Brand sprayed in the cylinders and on the lifters, let it sit for two days and the engine rotated nicely! I've got 90% of the sheet metal stripped and haven't found any rust or filled "junk". The layers turned out to be factory primer, factory black, then white or some other primer, then blue, then red oxide on the top... Pretty sure that kept any rust from happening! A dozen or so dings througout but most should tap out. So after all the sanding, the only bad part on the car is the rear center... Engine is coming out for a good cleaning, cut out the bad sheet metal in the back and then probably lay some epoxy on it till I have time to do some bumping... Long story short, I can't belive how clean this thing is...

Nice classic body style, great lines. Pleased to hear that "the engine rotated nicely!" Looking forward to hearing more about this project. Sounds like you're working with a really solid foundation.
