Default Spindles

Were there any changes in the model A spindles? I have some I thought were for the model A, but the bolt pattern is not the same. The backing plate holes measure 3 3/8th inch. (Model A) The extra spindles measure 3 1/8th inch. Are these maybe later models? I looked in the Judgeing Standards and could find nothing pertaining to the spindle per se.

The only change that I am familiar with is the early cars had flats, (looks like 2 vertical cuts to remove excess material) where the backing plate bolts on, and the later cars were round. Sorry, can't explain very well, and I don't have any pictures. All of the backing plates will bolt on to any spindle as far as I know. There was no change in the pattern for the holes.

Yes on the flange for mounting the backing plate is flat on the two sides. My 28, mounting flange is round.

If the spindle arms are part of the spindle they are later.

Possibly you have a set of mid 29 and later AA spindles if the pattern is larger. I do not know right off of the top of my head exactly when they went to a larger pattern for the AA backing plates. Rod
