I friend of my dad's told about Model A motors used to raise and lower the gates in dams. They were generally good, if you could get them, as they didn't have many hours on them.

In Big Bear Lake, mountains NE side Los Angeles, back in the 40's & 50's a ski area used an A engine & wheels to run the rope tow

A splitter for processing firewood. Not from the Model A era because I built it about 10 years ago.
Good Day!

The Venice California beach trams were model A powered. In the mid 1960s a friend and I toured the main office/repair facility and the owner was very nice

I saw one that had two cylinders blocked off and a different two piece head attached where one head was normal and provided the functions for the two cylinders that ran the thing. . The engine ran on the two cylinders and the other two with there separate head was designed to pump air. I was told that it pumped air into the mines in Penn. It ran amazingly well on the two cylinders. Jack

Sounds like an interesting research project! The Canal was finished in 1914 and took about 10 years to build so if they designed the lock gates at the start in 1904 or so, Model T's were not even in production yet, much less the A! So I wonder when Model A engines were put into use and how long they remained in use?

Owls Head Transportation Museum in Maine is rebuilding a Pietenpol airplane that is powered by an A engine. Not much to look at right now (the engine is out for a rebuild) but I will try to get a few pictures next chance I am there.

I always could be wrong about this. I have heard that these large steel lock gates were powered by 40 HP Ford . The glaring problem is the dates, but then what did they power them with before 1928. I assume these replacements were just that, long lived replacements. I will try to find out.

Did some research. The Panama Canal lock gates were powered by electric motors from day one.

My Dad belonged to the Wethersfield Cove Yacht Club and they used a Model A engine to drive a winch which was used to pull yachts out of the water. Ed

I did the same research and found the same result. Big difference between Mod. A engines and electric. Sorry I gave out bad info! Somewhere I had heard that bit of info and it stuck with me.
