39M McCulloch Supercharger
Just picked this item up saturday at an auction near here. Plan to put on my early '38 std. tudor when completed. Noticed the passenger side water pump pulley is a smaller diameter than the drivers side. The engine I am currently thinking of using is a post war factory relieved truck block. While taking pictures of it tonight I noticed some open or uncapped vacuum ports underneath the impeller housing. Any help on where the lines should go to is appreciated. Was told by the second owner that he removed it from a customers '40 Ford before he traded it for a newer car. It came off of a running car with 40,000 miles on it.

Here are 9 more pics to view. I don't know how much it cost... the wife says I'm not done paying for it yet.

Re: 39M McCulloch Supercharger
What you call vacuum ports is for the manifold heating.

The 2 different pulleys you pic, the one on the left is a water pump pulley and the one on the right is a crank pulley. Walt

I remember my father talking about these. He put one on a nearly new '39 Deluxe he had. He said for the expense involved and the labor necessary to install it the results were kind of disappointing. Maybe he was expecting too much.

Re: 39M McCulloch Supercharger
jimTN - In picture 11 in the first post there is an external line coming from a "t" fitting. The open side of the "t" is facing downward if the supercharger were installed, could that be what you are refering to? Also notice there is another open port at the forward side of the base of the snail housing. Walt - Yes I know, but I compared the loose pulley in pic number 2 and 3 to the waterpump pulley in pic 4 there is about a 1/2 inch difference in diameter. flatheadmurre - The last 3 pics in the second post shows the routing of the water coolant through the snail housing, the right side cylinder head and the radiator. sidevalve8ba - A potential competing bidder told me before the auction that they produced 17 horse power but took 27 horsepower to spin.

Re: 39M McCulloch Supercharger
There was a 2 issue series on these superchargers in Street Rodder magazine, a lot of good info. Think it was a year or so ago. Can probably be found by searching their archives

Re: 39M McCulloch Supercharger
The Street Rodder Magazine August 2013 and September 2013 has a 2 part article on rebuilding and installing a McCulloch. The title was "A Mighty Wind" Great article with lots of information. Dave/Green Bay

Re: 39M McCulloch Supercharger
On the oil ports, It would be best to obtain some of the original lit on your unit. I did have a folder some years ago but it is lost deep in my collection of Ford literature. I did a cursory look and did not find it but if I do, will copy it and post it. IMHO it seems as the highest fitting would be a entry port. You may be missing a short connector link.

Re: 39M McCulloch Supercharger
The passenger side water pump pulley that came with my purchase is a smaller diameter and has shallow grooves for the belts as compared to the rest of my pulleys. Is there any explanation to this other than I have an incorrect pulley for the passenger side water pump. In picture 2 and 3 the pulley on the left is presumed the correct passenger side water pump pulley and the pulley on the right is the crankshaft pulley.
