Default Back firing and lugging

I have a 1929 Roadster Pick-up everything runs good down the road until I get past about 35 or 40 and if I try to get down on it (press the accelerator more) it backfires and acts like it is starving for fuel, I have cleaning out the fuel bowl and it is not the gas cap, loosening it or taking it off doesn't help.

Like in a doctors office, if it is strictly a fuel related problem, important answers to a few more simple fuel questions may help:

1. Has it always done this?
2. If not, how long has it been doing this?
3. What is a guess as to an average how many miles it runs per week?
4. Do you have a metal, vertical, cylindrical filter in your gas tank above the shut off valve?
5. Do you have any other fuel filters, & if so where?
6. How old is the fuel?
7. Does it have an air filter?

BUT, if we list 219 different things, it's surely one of them at fault!!
First, open up the GAV gradually, if it runs properly, you're through.
If that doesn't help, close the choke gradually & slowly, if that helps, then do a systematic check to find the culprit.

Yay, Bill, for keeping it simple. Try the commonest easiest things first.
If you hear hoofbeats, do you firstly think horses....or zebras.....

This is my vote. Especially if there is less then 500 miles on recently replaced points.

What's your procedure to "check the condenser"?

Just quickly reviewed the magic word "condenser" under "Search" in the Ahooga archives.

In our Model A Forum guessing games, as to what causes a particular unseen engine problem located hundreds of miles away, according to the "Search" tool, this one little part is guessed at as "the" engine problem, accompanied by 419 condenser messages. LOL
