Re: Charleston Wv
I usually plan some trips by using "gogglemaps.com"
It gives the directions from point A to point B, and miles for each road. |

Re: Charleston Wv
From Charleston, WV you would take Route 60 west to Saint Albans, WV (approx 12 miles). There you would pick up Route 35 / 817 (older parts of 35 removed from the US highway system are called 817 in this area) to Point Pleasant, WV (approx 46 miles) . At Point Pleasant you will cross the Ohio River and be on Route 35 in Ohio to your destination.
Beware that the section of Route 35 from Saint Albans to Point Pleasant contains a 14 mile section of 2-lane highway that has a lot of semi-truck traffic and is considered one of the most dangerous roads in this area! Several deaths have occured this year in accidents involving tractor-trailers on that 14 mile stretch. I would consider Route 62 as a substitute for that section. It is a 2-lane road on the opposite side of the Kanawha River and has very littlle commercial traffic. You could easily pick up Route 62 at my hometown of Winfield, WV (15 miles from Saint Albans on 35 /817) by crossing the bridge over the river to Eleanor (named for Eleanor Roosevelt). It is a lot safer way to Point Pleasant in an old car! I usually take this route when I take my '34 to Columbus, Ohio for the Goodguy's car show. Be safe and enjoy the trip! Jim |

Re: Charleston Wv
Listen to Jim (Hot Rod Grille). He knows that area as well as anyone, I know.
He's been an "A" Model man for longer than I care to remember. We started, at about the same time, in the Charleston, West Virginia area, over fifty years ago. MIKE (mikeburch) |

Hey Randall, If you will PM me with your travel schedule and the approximate time that you will be in my area, I'll make plans to meet you for a root beer float at the soda fountain in The Hot Rod Grille Garage. I'm within sight of the bridge between Winfield and Eleanor that I suggested you use to reach Route 62 for the alternate (safer) route to Point Pleasant. Hope to see you! Jim |

We had a great visit from Randall & Tonda Strickland and Michael & Sue Westervelt at the soda fountain in The Hot Rod Grille Garage! It was fun to present the Stricklands with their very first root beer float while sharing Sue's stories of her days as a soda jerk years ago. Great to meet such friendly "Ford Barner's" and I look forward to stopping for a visit when I am in their neighborhood. Here are a couple of pics from their visit. Jim |
