Default 1931 Tudor Rear Side Window Replacememt

The large rear side window in our 1931 Tudor has developed a crack and needs to be replaced. The car is upholstered and driven.

Does anyone have a list of all the steps needed to remove the large rear side window?

Also, what advice and steps are required to install the new side replacement window?

Thanks very much.

Remove back seat. Remove side Upholstery panel below window. Behind that is a large metal panel held in with 7 screws. At that point you can remove the glass. Not a fun job, but not a hard one either.

Does the metal window inside trim/garnish molding that goes around the both sides and top of the window need to be removed? I assume it should be removed, but this molding is either stuck or fastened along the side towards the door jamb. I don't want to damage it.

Also, do the window channels need to be removed before the glass can be pulled out?

Thank you for the assistance.

Remove the rear seat, the garnish molding at the bottom of the window, the upholstery panels below the window and in front of the window, and the window molding that goes up and over the window.

You will have to remove the screws that attach the inner quarter panel assembly to the body. The inner quarter panel assembly is the large stamped sheet metal piece that the window regulator attaches to. Removing the screws (4 along the front edge and 3 along the rear edge) will allow you to tilt the panel inward, towards the center of the car. If you have already attached the felt channels to the body, then take them back loose at the top so that you can install the glass. Next insert the glass (with the metal channel already installed on the bottom of the glass) into the correct area and work the felt channels onto the edges of the glass. Then tilt the glass, with the felt channels, into the upright position and lower the glass to the bottom. You may have to insert a temporary wood block to support the glass while you align the glass and felt channels and reattach the top ends of the felt channels to the body. Once you have the glass and felt channels installed, raise the glass to the upper position and support it with a larger wood block, like a 2 x 4 cut to length. Next insert the knob on the end of the regulator arm into the slot in the metal channel on the bottom of the glass. Then adjust the regulator to where it will line up with the holes in the inner quarter panel assembly and reattach all of the screws in the regulator and quarter panel.
