Engine stand adapter?
Wondering...does the Snyder's adapter for engine stands grip the motor from the front or rear? Also what adapter do you recommend?

Re: Engine stand adapter?
I have one that is built by Bill Stipe and holds the engine from the side. Works great. It is listed in Bratton's catalog (part #8041). I looked in Snyder's catalog and could not locate an engine adaptor. Don/WI

Re: Engine stand adapter?
It's the same one. Now I understand the configuration. Looking at it I couldn't figure out what it connected to.

Re: Engine stand adapter?
I bought mine from AC&R when they were still in bussiness. much better than having to use a modern stand. You can somewhat see how it attaches in these pic's. While I did not have it on the stand at this point. Rod

Re: Engine stand adapter?
Stipe's stand adapter is great. it is built much heftier than you would think by looking at pictures. I hesitated at first, but am VERY happy I decided to buy it. I'd do so again in a minute. The flywheel weight is no problem for the stand adapter, but it does put the motor off balance, and it takes some real strength to flip the motor over.

Re: Engine stand adapter?
I will be removing the flywheel. My stand is ok, but I wouldn't want it too far off balance.

Re: Engine stand adapter?
I have the AC&R adapter. I had the engine, flywheel and transmission on it.
You can put the oil pan on with it attached. I think Bert's sells the AC&R now. |

Re: Engine stand adapter?
I was able to attach my stand to the flywheel end of the motor without any special adapters.

Re: Engine stand adapter?
Kevin email me we are running a special on engine lifters and engine stand adapters along with many other parts until the 17 th of this month, I was at a FAST meet Friday and Saturday I just got home. I think SueAnn has stock yet. I can check if you email me. Both are excellent tools.

Re: Engine stand adapter?
Quote:
For engine assembly, from bare block, I find the engine is easiest to work on if it is held from the flywheel side of the block and as Sparky indicates, most engine stand brackets will hold the block from the accelerator bracket holes and 2 of the flywheel housing holes. I have actually modified mine by drilling a couple holes in the mounting plate to align with the accelerator holes and use 2 short pieces of pipe over bolts as spacers. Being able to rotate the engine from this position allows easy access for installing the valves and rod/piston assembly. There is much less bending down to get at the areas needed. (I have tried to attach a picture.) Note: I have secured the lower arms in the second picture with weld to dedicate the bracket to Model A only. Bill Stipe's adapter works great for installing the flywheel housing, flywheel and pressure plate. Bill's very stout adapter allows you to tip the front of the engine down and makes installing the heavy flywheel much safer. I actually switch to Bill's adapter when moving past the point of having the head and pan installed. Switching adapters takes only a couple minutes. Good Day!
