Default 1936 Ford Chrome Hand nut for Luggage Rack?

Is anyone selling/reproducing the chrome hand nut for the early Ford luggage rack. Went for a ride today and noticed that one of mine either fell off, or was borrowed

Thanks

Seems to me I recall someone is reproducing those. Maybe it was Michael Driskell @ Third Generation Automotive??

John,
I made a very limited run of them in stainless steel. They are long gone now...

Probably not difficult to get CNC milled
Or you could just make a pattern and get then cast in bronze
If Michael got them CNC milled then the miller may have the program in their computer for it . If he got them cast there may be a pattern floating around somewhere.

I've done a few patterns and had things cast -The last was an exhaust manifold for my 1910 Hupmobile - Sold one or two which helped a little with the cost but I won't get rich from it-Karl

It really wouldn't be that difficult to make some of these if you have, or know someone who has a lathe and could find some brass bar stock of the correct diameter. I've also looked into making something that would work from an antique brass faucet knob if necessary. We'll see if I can post a few pictures. Wow, they actually loaded this time!!
The only problem with making these from old faucet knobs is people may borrow them to use on their antique faucets....

If you log onto McMaster-Carr, go to handles & knobs you get a pretty fair selection that you might be able to modify or even use as is.

Great creative minds, Thanks.

I may look into having one machined. If I do, anyone else need one?...No promises

Two, if reasonably priced.

Check with Karl Wescott. He does a lot of brass castings.

The ones, I had made were done on a CNC Machine. Costly if you are only wanting two.. Unfortunately the person who did them for me has passed away. Regardless the cost to produce 20 of them was around $550.00

If you are looking to fabricate some of the knobs, give Tom a call at Customs Classics and Rods in Elk River MN. He makes a lot of items from scratch. His blind nuts for Woodies are the best. He has the equipment to do it.

Back to my original suggestion of McMaster-Carr. Look at part numbers, 8558K6 or 61515K222. If you know someone with a lathe or a machine shop both of these can be machined to your sample. One is stainless and one is aluminum so they can be polished to a high luster. Probably a lot cheaper than having one made.

Maybe the reason it fell off is that '35-'36 racks did not originally use those handsome nuts, unlike the '32-early '34 racks where the brackets were recessed to match the taper on the end of shank of the nuts as shown in the photo below. They certainly are much more attractive than the original plain Jane hex nuts.

Woodiewagon46, you made an excellent suggestion. I am not driving a points correct 36 and those knobs look like they would definitely fill the bill and at a little over $6 for the aluminum and $18 for the stainless, I am certain I could not get one machined for anywhere near that, so thank you very much for your suggestion.
