'37 battery box question
I was wondering if anyone would know the purpose of
the hole in back side of the battery box. I have looked at several '37 and '38s at the junkyard; but none of them have anything in or through the hole. Thanks |

Re: '37 battery box question
The hole is for the tab that extends from the battery hold down clamp which has a bolt inside(firewall),this was to keep battery from being stolen. Supposedly added in 37 Fords Feb 1937.

Re: '37 battery box question
Does anyone reproduce a battery hold down that has this tab?

Not that I have seen. I have an original one and they are very rare.

Re: '37 battery box question
About 20 years ago I bought everything that was removed from a '37 deluxe tudor sedan that was being hotrodded. I wound up with a lot of nice parts including one of those battery hold down brackets that included the firewall bolt. I sold it at Hershey three years ago and at that time I wondered why the buyer was jumping for joy as he left my table. I also sold a rare greyhound hood ornament from that same car before realizing how rare it actually was.

Off topic reply, JM I see you've changed you avatar to show your 5 window! Looks pretty clean. Have you posted anything about it? -Jeff/VeryTangled

Re: '37 battery box question
Hi Jeff, I sent out an email with pictures to a bunch of people, including your Dad, but I didn't have your email addy to copy you. It is a pretty clean and straight mostly original car but will need some mechanical repairs/TLC before I'll feel comfortable taking it on any long distance drives. It's not that 3 window I wanted but it's the next best thing. I guess my FB handle/name doesn't fit my Avatar picture anymore .

Re: '37 battery box question
Once in a GREAT while you do see some on ebay. I think I paid $125.00 for mine about 5 years ago. I cannot use it because my Interstate battery is too tall and the stud won't go through the firewall. I'm using a repro bracket for right now.
