'40 Ford front fenders & king pin bearings
I am reassembling a "basket case" '40 coupe, the "V" support/brace between the front fenders that mounts to the center of the front X member with a spring & bolt/nut. Does the spring mount under the X member or on top of the brace? Also the load bearing, Ford script marked part #B-3123-A2, between the bottom of the front axle king pin boss and the spindle seems to be good. If I decide to replace it, are the available new ones good quality or junk? King pins & bushings seem good, no slop or wear.
Thanks, John |

Re: '40 Ford front fenders & king pin bearings
Hi John,
The spring goes on top of the brace. This allows a little flexing and give to the connection. This is wrong. The spring goes underneath the cross-member mount point. Last edited by glennpm; 12-26-2016 at 12:01 PM. Reason: correct error |

http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/t....949053/page-7 If all you need is the bearings make an offer on these with free shipping. At least with NOS you know it's American made from back in the day. MOOG no longer makes these. I don't think you can buy the bearings separately. Some kits come with thin shims to take up any wear. Some folks install roller bearing kit for "power steering" effect. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1937-1938-19...RWz4aA&vxp=mtr 1/2 ton truck king pins and bushings are the same as a car. Check here: http://www.droppedaxles.com/Kingpin_Part_Numbers.html. Here's where you can get shims. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Speedway-910...9VRUwc&vxp=mtr Last edited by 19Fordy; 12-26-2016 at 01:58 PM. |
